ALEXANDRIA, VA–April is National Poetry Month, so the DASHing Words in Movement poetry contest, an once-a-year contest that welcomes poetry from people 16 and older, was held to commemorate that in our city.

On April 15, 10 community poets were being honored by the Alexandria Transit Company and The Metropolis of Alexandria Workplace of the Arts for their poetry submissions. Their successful submissions are posted inside each individual bus of the overall Dash bus fleet and on the Place of work of Arts site.

Maureen Sturgill, Special Occasions Manager for the City of Alexandria, opinions, “We are pleased to have this method. It commenced in 2014 and continued even by way of COVID… All of the poems have been positioned on the Sprint buses, so any person in just the town can get on a Dash bus and look at out the poetry.”

As the winners posed outside of the Sprint bus with their winning poems, Poet Laureate Jakarta stated, “I am joyful to be among these remarkable poets, so delighted to be a element of DASHing Text in Movement, just content that poetry is being celebrated even in the time of COVID.”
